Usually you’re open to new ideas and fresh perspectives, but there’s something about the person critiquing your job performance that rubs you the wrong way. Maybe it’s the brusque manner, smug condescension, or the fact they’re younger than you. Unfortunately this person is here to stay which means you need to find a way to get along. Have you thought about praise? It may seem like this person is impervious to compliments, but approval is something everyone craves – even the person telling you how to do your job. Try it and you may elicit a smile; a tell-tale sign that there’s a human being underneath.
