Scales aren’t about balance and harmony. Scales are about determining value. For centuries scales were used to pay out money for crops that farmers brought in. One year might be a bumper crop which meant a nice pay out. The next year might be lean – which meant less money. A farmer might argue with the person administering to the scales but that person could always point to the plates and say “Hey, I’m not the one who decides. The scales do.”

Whether scales were used to weigh goods, gold, or hearts in one dish and feathers in the next (like with Anubis, the Egyptian god of the dead) the end result was going to be a judgment that nobody could refute. This is something that people forget about Libra. Once the judgment is made, the judgment sticks. It doesn’t matter if the polls said otherwise or if an FBI director tipped the balance: a verdict is a verdict and everyone will be expected to live with it. This is why people born under Libra agonize over decisions. It’s not because they can’t make up their minds. It’s because they know that whatever they decide it will be final. Imagine being let loose in your favorite store filled with all of the most expensive and extraordinary merchandise and being told you can have whatever you want but you can only leave with one thing. How many of us wouldn’t agonize over such an impossible choice? That’s life for people born under Libra. Plus because the Sun is in fall in Libra (meaning that the sense of self is weakest) the Libra person has to turn to others to get what s/he wants. An easy way to think about this is to take the “m” in “me” and flip it upside down make the “w” in “we”. Libra has to couple – whether it be for love or money – and it has to make that relationship work. People born under Libra expect their partners to make the same personal sacrifices that they do in order to honor that pledge, keep the peace, and create prosperity. The relationship is all. It’s something to keep in mind over the next 4 weeks while the Sun is in Libra from Sept. 22 to Oct. 21.
