Yearly Horoscope: Sagittarius – 2020
By Jerre Wroble
Luck favors the bold as they say, but for Children of Jupiter, as 2020 dawns, pluck and good fortune seem in short supply. That doesn’t mean that year ahead won’t be sprinkled with golden opportunities, but right now—since December 3, 2019 to be exact—it may seem like the Grinch stole Christmas, and possibly New Year’s, too. You can’t help but feel hemmed in by circumstances that keep you from being your large and in-charge self.
For most of 2019 you were riding with Lady Luck as Jupiter cruised through Sagittarius, the sign it rules. Jupiter was in its “element,” as they say, which means you couldn’t help but show up and make an impact. As a boss, teacher, mentor or speaker (positions you tend to gravitate to), when you were out in front of others taking creative risks, you inspired others to tread new ground or to broaden their horizons—either to impress, support or even mimic you.
Even still, the year was a dicey one as you tended to make your leaps before you looked. You may have found yourself, as you often do, in situations where things fell apart because that’s where you shine, in dubious circumstances where your leadership and ingenuity are fully engaged.
But when December 2019 rolled around, it ceased to be fun and games. Your ruling planet entered Capricorn, the sign of its “fall.” Your famous ability to shake your moneymaker is somehow misfiring. And in this cardinal earth sign, you are quite aware that if you bet the farm, you could lose the farm.
Those who have sought you out for advice, moral guidance and inspiration may be avoiding you, no longer convinced that if they follow you over a cliff, they can fly. The forces that buffered you in 2019 have thinned out, and you’re being asked by circumstances or people around you to get real, to live within your means and to consider what you want your legacy to be.
For this, you can thank the no-nonsense planet of Saturn, which also is in Capricorn and, in fact, rules the sign. Both Jupiter and Saturn are traveling through your solar second house of money and possessions, which might account for why matters of personal finance seem so vexing right now.
Saturn’s job is to test for soundness. Would that word apply to your personal finances right now? If the answer is no (because you prefer to wing it or because you emptied your savings to invest in a new app or because you have a deal in the works that soon will remedy all your financial shortfalls), then you’re likely to be having the “talk” with someone who plays the heavy in your life … be it your spouse, kids, parents or bookkeeper … you know, those who care about you and don’t want to see you camping under an overpass.
Oddly enough, you may be more receptive to their counsel now than you have been in a long while—at least since the Great Recession of 2008 (when Jupiter was last in Capricorn. Does that give you an inkling of what might lie ahead?).
During this transit, it’s possible that some of your cherished possessions will find their way to new owners, either because you don’t want them anymore and put them up for sale (best choice); you have to trade them to pay off a debt (second best choice); you simply give them away to someone you love (a decent choice); they’re lost/stolen/damaged (but — you have insurance … yay! Or, no insurance, so gone, baby, gone).
Saturn is asking how much do you care about such things? If you do want them, how will you make make use of them? If you’re ambivalent about them, if they no longer “spark joy,” as Marie Kondo says, then it’s time to “tidy up” by donating them or organizing garage sales and online auctions to pass them on.
This year more than ever, you are more willing to employ discipline and hard work to get your affairs in order. Financial security is now a concern, and you’re willing to create mechanisms to allow it to happen. For example, saving $50 a week with 1.85% interest means that in three years’ time, you will have saved almost $8,000.
Those kinds of calculations appeal to you right now. In a year of moderation and self-reliance, Children of Jupiter can master the art of seeding “time” with good fortune in order to create a future they wish to inhabit.
But not all the juice is in the distant future. There are a few pots of gold to be found in 2020 if you know where to look. That’s because, after a dozen years, Jupiter and the planet Pluto will have a reunion this year in the sign of Capricorn.
Named after the god of the Underworld, Pluto represents ordeals and the transformation that arise from them. This slow-moving planet has been traveling through your second solar house of personal finances since 2008, provoking those ordeals. And yes, that’s also the last time Jupiter transited this house.
Back then, the housing industry was in free fall. Many investors were focused on the rapid decline of their stock portfolios and home values. But those in the know began buying houses on the cheap and flipping them as their values returned, proving that even in dark economic times, opportunities abound if you are in position to pounce.
This year, the first conjunction of Jupiter and Pluto takes place on April 4. While it might not trigger a repeat of the housing crisis, it likely will be tied to an economic event. Soon after, on May 15, your ruling planet goes retrograde in Capricorn — meaning Jupiter appears to move backward in the sky — until Sept. 13. The slowed momentum means you’ll have a moment to figure out what is going down with the economy and your own finances, plus glean any missed opportunities of the past five months.
Pluto and Jupiter will meet up again on June 30, this time with both planets in retrograde, suggesting that a retreat or period of reflection is needed to assess the situation. While many will view what is happening simply as an economic event, with Pluto in the mix, things likely are not what they seem. There are undercurrents and hidden hands involved. Children of Jupiter play an important role in seeing the big picture and helping guide themselves and society toward a better outcome.
The third and final time the two planets meet, on Nov. 12, they will both be in direct motion. By this time, you will likely have made sense of what is going on and will be in position to grow while others are contracting.
For Children of Jupiter, 2020 involves many transits, which means there’s work to do, and not just with your money. Relationships also are part of the mix and that’s where you will be asked to step up.
For your partners and close friends, it’s an emotional year. You’re usually the wise, optimistic one but with Jupiter in Capricorn, you’re not quite the party animal you used to be. Your new serious side can make you a know-it-all and argumentative, which can rub both friends and foes the wrong way.
On June 5, a lunar eclipse in your sign creates uncertainty with partners and friends. It might be the first time in a long time you’ve imagined going it alone, but for now, your financial affairs, at least, keep you entwined with others.
From mid-October to early November, your partner may go silent and decline to let you in on what’s eating at them. It’s possible they’ve been hurt and are planning to dish it back to you at an opportune moment. But the more they let the resentment build, the more self-destructive their behavior becomes as does yours in response.
With Pluto and Jupiter making their final conjunction on Nov. 12 followed by a lunar eclipse on Nov. 30 in your house of partnership, it’s make it or break it time. Can you get on the same page with partners to divine a future together?
The answer is . . . yes, you can. With Saturn comes responsibility, the need to show up, the need to see things through. You invested so much in this relationship, and this person is the wind beneath your chariot. You’ve shared emotions, wisdom, wealth and, yes, pain. They’re part of your legend, and you’ll do what you can to keep them in your life . . . if they’ll stay, that is.
A final adjustment is needed, though, possibly harkening back to partnership concerns that were a focus in June, and a lunar eclipse in your sign on Dec.14 has you leaping to deal with those details.
Finally, and not a moment too soon, Jupiter departs Capricorn on Dec. 19. Goodbye, cardinal earth and all that discipline, hard work and duty it asked of you. But wait a minute, who is that beside you? Leaving Capricorn at almost the same moment as Jupiter is none other than Saturn himself. Jupiter may have shared the same sign with Saturn for its entire stay in Capricorn, but only now, on Dec. 21, does it meet up or conjoin the taskmaster himself, Saturn — at 0 degrees Aquarius and 29 minutes. Walking into this air sign together emphasizes communication and cooperation, a welcome shift from the earthbound concerns of the past year.
And, well, it’s like this: Saturn is also a ruler of Aquarius. So, you still will need to play by his rules (and those of Uranus, Aquarius’ co-ruler). But it’s truly a breath of fresh air, offering you the opportunity to get back in the “wisdom” game and bring forth your most advanced and progressive ideas on fairness and justice. Being able to work with others and incorporate their bold ideas is an added bonus. Let there be air!
You’ll want to check back in 2020 to see what Jupiter’s transit through the future-oriented sign of Aquarius bodes for you.
